More than 50 health professionals attended the conference on 'new challenges in bariatric surgery' organized by ADVENTIA PHARMA on November 5 at the Elder Museum of Science and Technology (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
On November 5, a training session on 'new challenges in bariatric surgery' was held at the Elder Museum of Science and Technology (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) which was attended by around 50 health professionals and had the intervention of large speakers from the sector; Dr. Miguel Ángel Rubio Herrera, Head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Section of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital, Lluís Serra Majem, Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Dr. María Asunción Acosta Mérida, Coordinator of the Esophagogastric, Endocrinometabolic and Obesity Surgery Unit of the Dr. Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria (HUGCDN).
The main objectives of the day were framed in knowing more about the morbid obesity and its associated factors highlighting its increase in the Canarian population and the importance of treating the problem from the root with awareness and information to the population as well as the need for nutritional training in schools and institutes.
In addition, the different types of bariatric surgery that currently exist explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each one, highlighting the importance of the nutritional approach in both pre-surgical and post-surgical patients and detailing how this approach should be and what requirements it should meet.
In conclusion, the reason for the conference, which was attended by endocrinologists, surgeons, nutritionists and nurses, was to talk about the new challenges of bariatric surgery and its nutritional approach and to take advantage of this forum to present the Bi1 Bificare, developed and designed especially for surgical patients who need energy restriction and a high protein intake.
